Rena Lopata’s inspiration in these poems comes from as far afield as Genesis, and as close as contemporary poetry, from generations past to regeneration, from the land of Israel to her own garden, from pre-war Europe to post-war Australia. They tell of the rifts and the continuities of memory.
These are the lands she invites us to walk with her. Some of the poems draw on her experience of listening to others, helping them to break their silences and to walk their lands; all are the product of her own experience as she did likewise. She speaks of and to her husband, her children, her mother and father, her mentor. And beyond them, to us.
